Slew makes England bow

Posted on: Wed 09 Feb 2011

Academy prospect Jordan Slew made his England debut on Tuesday night, but unfortunately the U19s slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Germany at Chesterfield's B2Net Stadium.

In front of 9,141 supporters, Slew played the final 30 minutes of the contest after replacing Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham, who netted for the Tractor Boys against the Blades at the weekend.

Sheffield-born Slew, who has broken into United's first-team this season, was heavily involved throughout as England pushed for a leveller and he came close on two occasions but ultimately couldn't mark his bow with a goal, despite a tenacious effort that will have impressed England boss Noel Blake.

Ched Evans and Daniel Bogdanovic were also called up for international duty, with Wales and Malta respectively, but withdrew from the squads.
